Sherpa Digital Media Welcomes New Managing Director

PhilGoldbyheadshot Phil Goldby is currently the Managing Director of EMEA at Sherpa Digital Media, a digital media solutions, infrastructure services, and media intelligence company that caters to global organizations. Prior to joining Sherpa Digital Media, Goldby led Reed Elsevier’s multimedia team as the Director of Enterprise Multimedia. The Makegood recently spoke with Goldby about his new position.

The Makegood: Congratulations on being appointed to Managing Director of EMEA at Sherpa Digital Media. You will be overseeing the state-of-the-art studio in London. What will this role entail, and how will you be supporting global demand?

The demand for video production, hosting and distribution is dramatically increasing, as companies strive to find most cost effective and engaging ways to communicate with their customer, stakeholder or employee.

In London, Sherpa Digital Media will be focused on providing excellent service for our global clients, helping them to bring a European dimension to their multimedia content.  As a registered UK company that is planning to open a state-of-the-art studio, we’ll be able to bring Sherpa Digital Media’s service directly to the UK and European market, enabling companies to weave digital media into the fabric of their company.

London was a very strategic choice for Sherpa Digital Media’s international expansion.  By adding a London studio to our existing studios in New York City and Redwood City, CA, we are able to provide our customers with video production services that span three time zones.  Our initial focus will be the UK, but there is already interest from companies in continental Europe that can be serviced from our new London office.

The Makegood: In your previous roles, you were responsible for providing communication technologies on a global scale. Could you elaborate on this? Will you provide similar communication technologies for Sherpa Digital Media?

The experience that I bring to Sherpa enhances the breadth of knowledge that the company already has.  Sherpa Digital Media prides itself on being able to provide an all-encompassing service to our client and with that we become a trusted advisor in the world of business video production and streaming media.

I was previously with Reed Elsevier, which is a is a typical multinational company with many thousands of employees across hundreds of locations.  There I helped to improve our internal and external communications.  I believe that by consulting with the end users and matching the technology to their needs, implementing the solutions as promised, and training them on how, when and why to use that solution, you stand a far greater chance of achieving the companies objective.

The Makegood: How will you help secure new clients? Do you have a particular strategy for certain target markets? 

Over the past 2.5 years, Sherpa has established an impressive client list.  This has been generated mainly by recommendation and very little by direct marketing.  Communicating, using rich media in a cost effective manner, is crucial for a company to reach its audience.  Therefore, the services that we offer are needed by any company – large or small.

With budgets still stretched, Marketing and Communication departments are always looking at more effective ways to communicate.  I would suggest that instead of focusing on certain markets, we will be focusing on the communicators of the company world.

The Makegood: With a growing need for digital media, great video content is now a necessity. How will you be accommodating this demand? Will you be working with a team to create exceptional video content? 

You’re spot on – there is no point in creating mediocre content these days.  I will be building a team of high class individuals who will ensure that we keep, if not exceed, the high standards already set by the Sherpa Digital Media team in the US.

The Makegood: What do you see in your future at Sherpa Digital Media? Do you have any particular goals you would like to achieve?

This is a very exciting time in the industry and at Sherpa Digital Media.  Starting at the ground level, here in the UK is a wonderful challenge that my co-directors have given me.  I know that there are many companies out there that offer commodity services like video streaming or AV production, but I believe that there are very few who are able to provide an end to end service wrap that enables clients to build a strong relationship with that one company for all their video media needs.  Sherpa Digital Media is that company, and my goal is to build the UK subsidiary into a company that is trusted and respected by the customer, and for my employees to be proud of our achievements.
